Smart Home Technology Inspection Service
Independent evaluations of smart home, AV, and network systems for buyers, sellers, and real estate professionals.
Modern homes hide complex technology
Today’s homes often include structured wiring, networking, audio, security, cameras, and automation systems that aren’t covered in a traditional home inspection. We help uncover what’s installed, what works, what doesn’t, and what ownership or upgrade risks may exist before closing.
What’s included in a Smart Home Technology Inspection
This is a room-by-room technology walkthrough, focusing on identifying the systems present, how they’re controlled, and whether they remain viable for the next owner.
We’re not tearing walls open or running diagnostics; we’re answering the practical questions buyers, sellers, and agents actually have.
Room-by-Room Technology Review
In each major area of the home, we identify:
- What technology systems are present
(audio, video, networking, lighting, shades, security, HVAC control, etc.) - What equipment is controlling those systems(apps, remotes, touchscreens, keypads)
- Whether the system powers on and responds as expected
- Whether the technology is current, aging, or functionally obsolete
- Any obvious red flags related to ownership, compatibility, or support
Central Equipment & Infrastructure
We also review any centralized technology locations, such as:
- Network racks, panels, or structured wiring enclosures
- Routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, and control processors
- General organization, labeling, and overall condition

How does this differ from a traditional home inspection?
We don’t inspect plumbing, roofing, or structural components.
We focus exclusively on technology systems, examining how they’re designed, integrated, and how they’ll realistically perform for the next owner. This service is exclusively performed by Diamond Design, a Dallas/Fort Worth-based smart home and AV design firm with nearly two decades of experience planning, installing, and supporting residential technology systems.
What You Receive After the Inspection
After the inspection, you receive a clear summary outlining what technology is present, what works, what doesn’t, and where future risks or upgrades may exist, delivered in plain language, without technical fluff.
